Spooks & Sparks

Last year a lot of you came and stood in a field with us in the dark, ate pizza, and watched some fireworks. It went well enough that we’re doing it again.
Spooks & Sparks is a Halloween and bonfire party built around small children, which mostly means it happens at a sensible hour and finishes before anyone melts down. Ours are three this year, so we have skin in the game.
Everything is free. The pizza, the hot chocolate, the parking, all of it. Just turn up.
The bonfire
There will be a very large fire. Standing near it is the main event, so dress for standing outside in Norfolk in November and you’ll have a lovely time.
The fireworks
Mostly the quiet ones.
We say mostly because a display of entirely silent fireworks is a slightly sad thing, so there are a few with a bang in them near the end. If you’ve got a child who finds that difficult, the noisy part is short and we’ll give you plenty of warning.
Sunset is around half four, so it’ll be properly dark well before home time.
The food
A pizza truck, parked in the field, making actual pizza. Five flavours, and we ask you to choose in advance so they can get the dough right.

Gluten-free bases are available, and little ones sharing with an adult is completely normal.
There’s also a hot drinks trailer doing tea, coffee and hot chocolate. The hot chocolate is the reason most of the children come.
Dressing up
Entirely optional. Costumes, a bit of face paint, or a coat. Nobody is judging. Last year the best costume was worn by someone’s dad and he knows who he is.
Before you come
If you’re making a day of it, there are a few good things nearby, and a page of local folklore for after dark.
Questions
Is this suitable for very small children?
It's built for them. Ours are three. It starts in the afternoon, the fireworks are mostly quiet ones, and nobody will mind if you leave after forty minutes because someone has had enough.
Are the fireworks loud?
Mostly not. There are a few louder ones towards the end and we will warn you before they start. If your child is noise-sensitive, this is the bit to plan around, and ear defenders are a very good idea.
What does it cost?
Nothing. Pizza, hot drinks and parking are all free. Please don't try to give us money.
Do I need to bring anything?
Warm clothes, and shoes you don't mind ruining. It's a field. Wellies and a brolly if the forecast is grim. A torch is handy for finding your car afterwards.
Can I bring my dog?
Best not. Bonfire, fireworks, and a field full of running toddlers.
Is there parking?
Yes, free, in the field. Details are on your invite page once you've said you're coming.
Are there toilets?
Yes, and a sink. Signposted on the day.
What if it rains?
We will be out there anyway. There should be a marquee. Bring waterproofs and lower your expectations of it slightly.
What if the weather is genuinely awful?
If we have to change anything, there will be a notice at the top of this website and we will message everyone directly. Check here before you set off.
Can I bring someone else?
Ask us. There is a "suggest someone" button on your invite page. We are not being precious, we just have to tell the pizza truck a number.
When do you need to know by?
Sunday 25th October. After that the order is in and we can't easily change it.
Something's come up and we can't make it.
Completely fine, but please do tell us. It genuinely changes what we order.
